Community Care Services was established more than 30 years ago. A man named Jud Stone was working for a social service agency that focused on the needs of children. He saw a further need to help adults with problems. His vision and strong personal drive eventually brought into being a new agency for adult care – the Six Area Coalition. About the same time the Wayne County Community Mental Health Board created Cornerstone Counseling to address unmet needs in the community. In early 1985, it became apparent that by combining the strengths of both organizations, more could be accomplished with far greater efficiency. That was the “birth” of Community Care Services. Today, more than 150 Community Care Services staff members provide outpatient mental health and substance abuse services to nearly 5,000 individuals and families annually.
