Medical Assistant

Job Type: full time

POSITION SUMMARY

Provides both medical and clerical support to the assigned program and/or unit.

 

ESSENTIAL POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Verifies client information by interviewing client; recording medical history; confirming the purpose of visit, preparing charts, pre-admission and consent forms.
  2. Prepares clients by performing preliminary physical tests; taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature; reporting client history summary.
  3. Report any abnormal findings, changes or verbal reporting of complaints, to the prescriber.
  4. Secures client information and maintains client confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records; completing diagnostic coding and procedure coding; keeping client information confidential.
  5. Assists nurses with the documentation and completion of prior authorizations needed for prescribed medications; facilitates communication between the pharmacy, doctors, and consumers as needed.
  6. Assist with follow up of medical records request to physicians, nurses, clinicians for completion of documents or review and signature and works collaboratively with external primary care physicians for an integrated health focus.
  7. Records and enters data electronically, prepares and monitors various reports as needed.
  8. Maintains and organizes an efficient daily work schedule/calendar of nursing staff members to facilitate the flow of appointments.
  9. Maintain health measurement equipment as required by policy.
  10. Attends and participates in relevant meetings and activities.
  11. Other duties may be assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND EDUCATION

High School Diploma or GED equivalent; certified in field preferred but not required.

 

WORK EXPERIENCE

A minimum of six months of experience in a related position is required.

 

SPECIAL EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

Proficient with productivity software and the ability to use general office equipment. Good command of grammar and phone skills are essential.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Occasional requirements: Lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying up to 25 pounds. Climbing, kneeling, stooping, and bending.
Frequent requirements: Sitting for long periods of time.

 

MENTAL DEMANDS

Occasional requirements:  Intermittent or cyclical work pressures.
Periodic requirements: Pressures related to meeting deadlines, fulfilling scheduling requirements, etc.
Frequent requirements: Attention to detail/concentration on figures, paperwork, data, etc. Simultaneous handling of multiple projects. Distracting influences such as people, telephone calls, noises and so forth.

 

UNDESIRABLE/DISAGREEABLE WORKING CONDITIONS

Periodic requirements: May be required to work evening hours.
Frequent requirements: Exposure to clients who may carry contagious illness or cause bodily harm.

 

SALARY CLASSIFICATION

Union: Secretary Scale
Contract: Rate of pay is determined by contractual arrangement
