Turning Point Clubhouse

STATUS UPDATE: Turning Point Clubhouse is currently open with limited capacity and is also offering virtual services. Contact our clubhouse manager at 313-389-7500 for additional information.

A sense of belonging, self-worth, and accomplishment is critical as individuals recovering from a serious mental illness begin to integrate into the community. Turning Point Clubhouse, a voluntary psycho-social rehabilitation program provides its members with a safe and inspiring environment to expand their social network, explore interests and develop new skills.

Turning Point Clubhouse runs on a work-ordered day, which means members are responsible for day-to-day operations. Our members have a strong sense of pride and ownership in the clubhouse and this confidence carries over to other areas of their life. It has been shown those who attend and participate in clubhouse activities have reduced mental health symptoms, increased healthy lifestyles, and gain self-determination through this evidence-based international program.

Responsibilities include:

  • Planning menus and shopping for food
  • Preparing meals and snacks
  • Managing budgets and handling cash
  • Tracking product inventory
  • Performing computer and clerical tasks
  • Writing newsletters and community outreach
  • Maintaining the facility
  • Planning social outings
  • Leading tours and orientations
  • And more…

In addition to maintaining the clubhouse, our members are exposed to part-time job opportunities through various community businesses. Members who participate in transitional employment establish strong work habits, define job preferences and earn needed income. Transportation is provided to and from work as needed.

Turning Point Clubhouse members also plan a variety of optional social events each month. From movies to bowling, to bingo, to birthday celebrations members can participate as much or as little as they prefer.

  • No cost to become a member
  • Must have a mental health diagnosis
  • Must be a Medicaid recipient
  • Registered with a Wayne County community mental health program
